Ok folks… It’s that time of the year again. The CrossFit Open is upon us. We have until February 22nd to get all the toe to bar, muscle up and double under practice in that we can possibly stomach. This time of year brings anxiety and fear of the unknown but it also brings people together to show love and support to those that dedicate all year long to this sport. This will be my 5th year participating in the Open and I can honestly say it doesn’t get any easier but boy it’s fun as hell. Even though my goals have nothing to do with competing at a Regional level, I will always participate in the Open.
With that being said, we are going to do things slightly different this year. We will still have 4 teams, with draft. The team Captains will be your coaches, Dani, Chance, Bret and myself. Just like last year, we will be holding a draft, in random order, for those members that we know will compete in the Open. As soon as the draft is over, it will be open season for recruitment. If you were around last year, this part got pretty gnarly. Bribes were given, promises were made then broken (Dugan), it was entertaining to say the least. Last year the scoring got pretty intense so this year we will be making some adjustments to make everyone’s lives a little easier. We will still have participation points and weekly bonus points.
The Intramural is all about community and participating in OUR sport. Because we are a Crossfit gym, we want all participants to sign up HERE. It’s a $20 entry fee and your scores get stacked against every Crossfitter in the world. When you think about it, that’s pretty dope. You get to see how you compare with other athletes in your same division.
So, what do you need to know now….
- The dates are Feb 22 thru March 26. Registration is now open. GO SIGN UP!
- The fee is $20. Not a big deal, just cut your Handle Bar or French Press visits down to 7 instead of 10 this month.
- The four team captains are…
- Bret Williams
- Dani Russell
- Chance Daskauskas
- Danielle Ivie
There will be more information given along the way, this is just the “need to knows”.
