February is coming to a close. For those of us who weren’t washed away by the torrential downpour, that gave Santa Barbara the spanking of a lifetime, we can now sit back for a few more months until our city is once again the envy of everyone else with our warm weather, beautiful beaches, and beautiful bodies.
In the meantime lets take a moment to recognize our first 2017 male Athlete of the Month. Hit pause on that cat video you’re watching while your boss lectures you on cost projections for March. Pour both of you a glass of that Irish coffee you bring to work in a Hydro Flask every morning (He’ll appreciate it, trust me.). And give a star-spangled, rip-roaring, tsunami ridin’, beer bong chuggin’, twenty-one gun salute to Mr. February, Dan “Bad Bad Leroy” Brown!
Dan’s been a member of our little family for the better part of two years. He quickly fell in love with CrossFit and us (Honestly, how could you not? You people are amazing.) and ever since then he’s been a regular attendee at our noon classes, often times running from his office to the gym already geared up and ready to go.
A few things you might not know about Dan is that he and his wife are from Santa Barbara, he’s a Bears fan, him and I share a passion for the art of falconry, and he was in the Marines for nine years and served over seas as a Cobra helicopter pilot. He’s also a graduate of the UCLA Anderson school of management where he was named valedictorian of his graduating class. In no uncertain terms Dan is a card carrying badass. I’m pretty sure he also wrestles Grizzly Bears for exercise when he’s not at the gym (This may explain being a Bears fan).
We chose Dan this month because he comes to class ready to learn. He listens to the coaches and works hard at making corrections to his form and technique. He’s always smiling, making jokes, and just generally elevating the level of class for everyones enjoyment. I personally love it when I’m coaching a noon class and Dan walks through the door.
Dan, we love you and we love that you chose to make our gym your home and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Thank you for supporting us and our work, thank you for making our days a bit more enjoyable, and thank you for your service. We look forward to many more football games, workouts, laughter, and fun.
